Ottón Solís: “Donald Trump’s victory could allow us to renegociate some aspects from the FTA”

November 9, 2016 by Staff News Writer

According to Ottón Solís, politician and legislator from Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC), Donald Trump’s victory in the US presidential election could open a door to renegotiate some points from the Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

During his campaign, the elected president of the United States emphasized in changes in the commercial policies of his country and the relations with other nations.

Solís thinks that Costa Rica could take advantage of this in order to negociate some aspects where the country yielded too much.

A renegotiation is not an unilateral act, so the United States cannot impose anything, which opens up great possibilities for our country. Trump is the President and we must pay attention to all his proposals,

declared the legislator through a Facebook post.

The elected president won 279 electoral votes, while Clinton, his electoral opponent, obtained 218 votes.
