Attorney’s office opens internal investigation over prize given to Minister’s brother

May 8, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Attorney General’s Office (PGR) will open an internal investigation to determine what happened to the file that was processed against the State and that ended with the award of a prize of more than ¢200 million to Jonathan Mauri, brother of the Minister of Sports Carolina Mauri.

By means of an email the Attorney General indicated:

The Office of the Attorney General of the Republic will initiate a preliminary investigation into the facts related to the defense of the State exercised in the contentious-administrative proceedings filed by Mr. Jonathan Mauri in relation to the prize claimed by him.”

The prize given to Mauri has raised a series of criticisms, to the point that Jonathan Prendas, legislator from National Restoration, will ask that once installed the Commission of Income and Public Expenditure, it investigates the circumstances in which the brother of the minister of Sports, Carolina Mauri, received the millionaire prize.

The prize disappeared in 2014 with the reforms to the law of prizes of the Ministry of Culture.
