Authorities ended gang that committed 20 violent assaults in Turrialba

November 23, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The leader of a criminal group that committed at least 20 violent assaults in Turrialba was captured on Thursday morning by the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) in Siquirres.

However, the authorities are clamoring for citizens to file the corresponding complaints, because at this moment there are only three reported incidents.

Wálter Espinoza, director of the OIJ, explained that the group is also suspected of killing a young merchant in one of the assaults. The victim was a 23-year-old man who sold cheese in the area.

The gang was quite violent and they attacked the houses located in Santa Teresita de Guayabo. It is a fairly rural area where the neighbors are isolated, which criminals used to their advantage,”

said Espinoza.

The police chief said that the subjects entered the properties by force and destroyed doors and windows.

For the most part, the criminals were looking for cash and apparently attacked every three days in the area. Most robberies occurred between June and July.
