August 3, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The municipality of Cartago has 51 dogs that were abandoned during the pilgrimage of 2018. Rolando Rodríguez, mayor of the province, said that the city council has already started a program for citizens to adopt pets that were forgotten during the pilgrimage.

Interested persons can contact the Municipality through social networks. The pets are in the Municipal Center of Education for Animal Care (CMECA).

In the 2017 pilgrimage there were 80 dogs that were abandoned, so there was a decrease this year.

The local representative said that 10 people were arrested for multiple crimes and also that the Red Cross assisted 2,500 Costa Ricans during the day. Similarly, Rodriguez said that there were 35 confiscations from street vendors, and at the moment 25 tons of solid waste were collected.
