Authorities rescued six ship wreck survivors this weekend

August 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

This weekend, six people were rescued by the National Coast Guard Service in Costa Rican waters.

The first incident occurred on Friday in front of the Murciélago Islands, in La Cruz de Guanacaste. The site reported an emergency with a boat.

The vessel of the Coast Guard station of Puerto Mora located the affected people, aboard a fishing boat named La Costeña, manned by four men identified as Lester Garcia, Henry Garcia, Joseph Ramirez and Óscar Rodríguez.

According to the Ministry of Security, the fishermen were transferred to a safe place where they were able to repair the damage on their ship. Then they were taken to Cuajiniquil.

The other case occurred on Saturday in the South Pacific. A boat from the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE) called La Atosa reported problems with propulsion.

The ship had left Caño Island towards Drake Bay, but then it was stranded between San Pedrillo and San Josecito. The Coast Guard also assisted them to move to land safely.
