Avianca has a new aircraft with eco-efficient engine

July 19, 2018 by Staff News Writer

On Thursday morning Avianca presented its new aircraft, Airbus A320 NEO. This innovative plane is the first to incorporate NEO technology for Costa Rica.

The aircraft is the eighth of its kind for the airline and it has eco-efficient engines, that’s where the name NEO (New Engine Option) “New Engine Option” comes from. The engine allows efficiency in fuel consumption by up to 15%. It also promotes a decrease in noise and environmental pollution rates.

Avianca remains committed to Costa Rica and the region. Proof of this is the incorporation of this first aircraft with NEO technology in the country “

said Silvia Mosquera, Vice President of Sales, Marketing and Revenues of Avianca.

Representatives of the organization and government entities participated in the inauguration, including Minister of Tourism, María Amalia Revelo, as well as Danilo Correa, General Director of Central America and Mexico of the company, and CEO Heliodoro Novoa.

The plane also has sharklets on the tip of its wings; these aerodynamic devices generate an additional optimization in fuel consumption of up to 4%. This allows the aircraft to increase its cargo capacity and obtain a greater range of operation since it has the ability to fly 500 miles more than traditional aircraft.

A new on- board entertainment system is incorporated into the ship that facilitates navigation through individual screens and is accompanied by a USB port for travelers to connect their devices. Similarly, the passenger has the ability to control the content of the screens through their personal devices through the application “Avianca Entertainment” available in the iOS and Android stores.

In addition to the new technology incorporated, the company added new routes for travelers. Orlando, United States, will be one of the new destinations of Avianca’s route network, starting on August 2nd, 2018. In addition, starting on August 17th, the airline will begin the operation of a new route to Boston, United States.

Avianca offers flights to 12 destinations in the United States, with flights from Bogota to Fort Lauderdale, Miami, New York, Orlando, Los Angeles, Boston, and Washington DC; and from El Salvador to Miami, New York, Washington DC, Chicago, Los Angeles, Dallas, Houston, and San Francisco, now adding Boston and Orlando.
