AyA: “Bagaces residents can trust the water they drink”

February 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Being cocerned about the water they consume became a daily experience in some communities from Bagaces, Guanacaste.

Arsenic in the precious liquid does not disappear. However, the Aqueducts and Sewers Institute (AyA) assure that its levels have lowered.

We are continuously monitoring our arsenic-removing plants. When the concentration rises to more than 7, we immediately change or wash the system and we are back to zero,

said Yamileth Astorga, executive president of AyA.

These plants are found in communities such as Arbolito, Bagatsí and others are located in lower areas of Bagaces. Astorga argues that residents of the affected areas can relax and trust the water they receive.

However, Astorga assured that the current actions are not the definitive solution, but the 6 projects that aim to improve the systems in Guanacaste: Bagaces is working on the construction of a new aqueduct. The project designs are already finished, however, it is in the process of acquiring land to study its environmental viability.
