Bar Rapsodia had no insurance policy

August 5, 2016 by Staff News Writer

According to the investigator in charge, neither the owners nor the tenants of the bar that burned down this morning in Paseo Colón had insurance policy.

We located the owners and they say they have no policy. The tenants say they have no policy on the utensils either. There are 20 employees, but at the time the bar was closed,”

said Henry Morales, an investigator at the Fire Department.

According to Morales, the local is only open on Fridays and Saturdays and at the time of the fire there was only a security guard, who managed to escape unhurt by one of the emergency doors.

In the bar there were several fire extinguishers and evacuation zones, which were enabled so that firefighters could do their work.

Morales said the tenants filed a complaint with the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ), and this is the institution in charge of reviewing the scene to determine the causes hitherto unknown.

A complaint changes the scenario into police matter and we have no authority over the area. We’re going to wait for the OIJ to come with K-9, which is the protocol established when there is a complaint,”

added Morales.

In total 252 square meters were burned. The fire apparently started at the front of the building.
