Body found by authorities could be African child

September 4, 2017 by Staff News Writer

On Monday morning, officials from the Ministry of Public Security and the Red Cross located the body of a child, which they presume could be a 4-year-old African child identified as Samuel Bienga Fernand, missing since last Friday in Bahia Salinas, in La Cruz, Guanacaste.

The discovery occurred at 09:24 a.m. on a beach located on the north side of Bolaños Island.

The National Coast Guard Service is transferring personnel from the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ) from Puerto Mora, to carry out the investigation process.

Apparently, the minor traveled with other relatives in two boats loaded with foreigners. The boy was part of 50 migrants, who were housed several days in Costa Rica and chose to illegally continue their journey to North America by the sea.
