Breath Alcohol Test Now Available in Costa Rica

April 5, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A breath alcohol test has just arrived in the country. The product is called “Alarm” and provides consumers with an alternative to measure alcohol consumption.

According to Giovanni Sosto, Vice President of Prumisa, the company that markets the product

the test is disposable, that is, it is used only once and it has a cut level of 0.25 milligrams per liter, which is in accordance with the Traffic Law. This means that if the result is positive, the person cannot drive because they are exposed to a fine…”

Sosto stated that their idea is to give the user an alternative to be responsible when consuming alcohol, and have a test to check if they can drive. The test aims to avoid tragedies on the road.

The executive stated that for the moment it is the only test of this type sold in the country,

we are marketing it in pharmacies … The product brings all the instructions for its use…”

Regarding the issue, Mario Calderón, director of the Traffic Police said:

we welcome any mechanism that helps prevent and reduce accidents.”
