Bye, sexism!

July 28, 2016 by Staff News Writer

“Con ellos hacia la igualdad y equidad de género” (With them towards equality and gender equity) was a forum made by Chamber of Commerce of Costa Rica aimed to end sexism in Costa Rican society in order to start a new model that involves equity and gender equality in family and work life.

What we want from the first forum is to start creating this new discourse, listening to it and henceforth start building a fair society where all men and women have place for education, opportunities and possibilities for further growth,

said Irene Jara, Program for the Development of Entrepreneurs Women’s director.

Alejandra Mora, Minister of the Condition of Woman, president of the Legislative Assembly Antonio Alvárez Desanti and Óscar Alvarado from Grupo Mutual attended the activity as speakers.

Due to customs, history and culture, we have developed specific roles for men and women. We want to introduce the concept that if we, as women, contribute with 50% of the economy at home, then men have to do the same: it is a shared activity,

stated Jara.
