CAIS will help addiction and violence victims

July 7, 2016 by Staff News Writer

From July 8th, Desamparados’ policy holders people will have a new, outstanding service that will help addiction and violence victims as well as mental disorder patients in the community’s Centro de Atención Integral en Salud (CAIS).

Julio Cascante, People’s Comprehensive Care Center worker, said that this new modality will come into force with the first Mental Health and Addiction team.

By doing this, people in vulnerable situations are assisted through a single treatment plan led by a social sciences and health professional team.

To do this, 20 professional groups were assembled and trained. They are composed of a social worker, a psychologist, a nurse with a mental health specialty, a general practitioner and social network expert.

This new modality offers individual, family or group therapies and patients will undergo a single treatment plan that will be done within a specific period, not superior to eight months. In addition, the modality will consider the recommendations of the entire team involved in the therapeutic process.

The 20 teams are expected to be fully operating by 2018, in communities that according to Caja Costarricense del Seguro Social (CCSS) and Instituto de Alcoholismo y Farmacodependencia Adquirida (IAFA), are vulnerable, such as Coronado, Quepos and Heredia.
