Campaign aims to collect five tons of glass

November 24, 2017 by Staff News Writer

A recycling campaign seeks to break the record of five tons of glass, collected in previous editions and calls the population to join the initiative, which will run until November 30th aiming to reach the goal of 10 tons.

This is the third edition of the Glass Recycling Campaign of the Vical Central American Vidriero Group, in the Central American Window (Vicesa), which is its subsidiary in Costa Rica. The difference this year is that the organizers of the campaign propose that people buy whole glass and not crushed bottles, because it facilitates collection.

Those who come to deliver bottles or glass containers, will receive 1 glass for every 2 kilograms of recycling material, which is equivalent to four glass bottles on average.

The collection takes place from Monday to Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Distribuidora Distincomer facilities, located next to the facilities of Vicesa in Taras de Cartago.

We ask people to come with material to recycle that has been rinsed, without waste and free of garbage such as napkins, straws or toothpicks. Additionally, it is very important that the bottles and glass containers come without sheets, corks, plastic or metal rings,”

commented Alejandro Conejo, Corporate Head of Recycling.

In order to facilitate the collection and separation of glass, containers of different colors were placed there. People can deliver bottles and containers for recycling in sacks, boxes, bags, so that their integrity is not compromised and safe handling is guaranteed.

Glass, being the most recyclable material, has no limit in the number of times it can be reprocessed. By recycling it retains 100% of its qualities and allows energy savings of around 30% compared to new glass.
