Campaign aims to raise awareness among motorcyclists in the country

March 8, 2018 by Staff News Writer

In the last two years, 914 people died due to traffic accidents. In January this year, 35 deaths were reported, according to data from the Road Safety Council (COSEVI). Of all the road deaths, 44% were motorcyclists, despite the fact that they only represent 18% of the entire vehicle fleet in the country.

According to the authorities, the main cause of these incidents would be the recklessness of the drivers when performing irresponsible practices such as passing the double yellow line, passing between buses, skipping the red lights, and disrespecting the speed limits.

Before the alarming panorama, the National Institute of Insurances (INS) aims to raise awareness in motorcyclists by means of the campaign “Sé más vivo que los demás. Manejá con cuidado”. (Be smarter. Drive safe.)

This proposal exposes the tragic consequences of driving recklessly with four tutorials, and asks motorcyclists to be responsible. Each one of the videos ironically exposes a “step by step” guide to commit different indiscretion.

“How to pass a curve?”, “How to skip a traffic light?”, “How to go through traffic?” And “How to exceed the speed limit?” are the themes of the material that makes up this awareness campaign.

Representatives of the campaign assure that the contents are based on the attitude of many of the drivers who believe that “being the cleverest” or “the best at the wheel” makes them immune to road accidents. However, they are the most exposed.

All the stories in the tutorials are told by former motorcyclists who were real victims of accidents and who lost some of their limbs. They agreed to be part of the campaign, in order to help eradicate the irresponsible culture in current and future drivers.
