Canadian Group nears goal of 300,000 signatures against mine operation

International attention for an open pit gold mine in Cutris de San Carlos has increased since an environmental group in Canada started an online petition, asking 300,000 people to register their opposition. The petition, which has reached over 290,000 respondents asks the Canadian owned firm, Industrias Infinito to drop its lawsuit in international arbitration, which seeks damages from the government of Costa Rica, for canceling its concession.
