October 23, 2017 by Staff News Writer

The three subjects who held six people on Saturday night in Grecia got into the wrong house.

They intercepted a 24-year-old woman named Barrantes, who was moving from Atenas to Grecia. However, everything indicates that the criminals were really goinf after Barrantes’ landlords.

The supposed objectives were managers of different companies of container transport and a lubri-center in Atenas. The family named Fallas Solano already was contacted by the judicial authorities.

The captors insisted on locating the wife of the businessman named Solano several times. In addition, they asked for jewels and money, but the house they entered had no valuables, so they only threatened the people.

The hostage situation lasted about 20 minutes, but the victims were told not to leave the house. They did so after 9 p.m. when they observed a strong police operation and they felt safe.

Wálter Espinoza, director of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ), explained that Barrantes works in the lubrication center and she carried 200,000 colones of the day’s profits. She traveled with a motorcyclist who also works at the company. He accompanied the woman because she did not have a driver’s license, and was also held for an hour at a motel located in Alajuela. They were both were intercepted by two vehicles in the sector of Santa Eulalia.

None of the victims has a criminal record. The investigation continues. It is presumed that the suspects fled by an easily accessible route located in the back of the homes in San José street in Grecia.
