Carlos Alvarado would tackle the deficit with less expenses and greater efficiency

February 5, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The fiscal deficit is perhaps the main problem that the country will face in the coming years. The numbers of the Central Bank speak of 7.1% for 2018 and of 7.9% for 2019 if no measures are taken.

The candidate of the Citizen Action Party, Carlos Alvarado, said in a press conference that this is one of his priorities and that within his government plan he established a series of proposals to tackle the issue. He said one of them will be the revision of public employment and salary bonuses, as well as the civil service regime.

Alvarado is accompanied by presidential candidate Marvin Rodríguez, a renowned trade unionist who defended the benefits for public employees over the years. Despite that, today the candidate of the PAC assured that he will review the figures and the bonuses if he wins, but that he wants to combine it with the improvement of the efficiency in the sector.

The greatest impact in the revision of public employment has to do with efficiency. If there are better services, there is a better return on investment,”

said Alvarado.

If we play the bonuses, but we do not touch the efficiency, we can reduce the deficit, but the public thing would remain the same,”

added the candidate.

The current government of Luis Guillermo Solis is criticized for not taking action in time to prevent the country’s economy from reaching the emergency point for the next administration.

Marvin Rodríguez shared the criteria of the candidate and said that the most important thing will be a dialogue with all the parties to find a balance that will generate benefits for the country.
