Carmen Naranjo Foundation wants to protect Costa Rica’s cultural legacy

Carmen Naranjo Foundation was born in January 2017. It aims to protect and transmit the cultural legacy of Costa Rican writer Carmen Araujo and provide opportunities for new generations.

Carmen Naranjo was a Costa Rican figure known for her achievements in the literary field and her work in the public service. Among her works there are Los perros no ladraron, La canción de la ternura y Hacia tu isla.

Virginia Borloz, president of the Foundation, declared that this project was Doña Carmen’s wish.

We were with her in the last 10 years … We want to properly use the legacy that she left,

said Borloz.

The President informed that this new group has several projects, among them, scholarships for young women graduated from José Joaquín Vargas Calvo High School to prepare them in technological areas with the collaboration of Cisco company.

In addition, they will offer “En busca de pensadores” project, which aims to make visible and reintegrate the figure of the writer in the academic field through literary workshops.

Two important activities will be part of the project.

The first one will be “Carmen Naranjo Fair for Costa Rican writers”, to be held in Roosevelt Square on January 29th. This fair will be open from 10 am to 4 pm. It will be free for all writers who want to participate.

In addition, on January 31st, a benefit dinner will be held at the Cultural Institute of Mexico starting at 6 pm.
