Cartago celebrated the Oxcart Driver Day

October 10, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On October 9th, the Municipality of Cartago celebrated El Día de Los Boyeros, or Oxcart Driver Day, and more than 200 wagons participated in the event. They started their journey at the Monument to the Drover from Cartago.

The activity has taken place during the last 7 years, on the second Sunday of October: people gather on the streets of Vieja Metrópoli to see a parade that brings families together to enjoy this Costa Rican tradition.

We are very honored to offer our citizens an activity that shows a beautiful, national tradition that started in Cartago. By doing this, we pay tribute to these important people who conduct an essencial activity for all of us: to put food on our tables,

declared Rolando Rodríguez Brenes, mayor of Cartago.
