CCSS asks families to vaccinate children against measles

December 18, 2018 by Staff News Writer

If you are in charge of children between 15 months old and 10 years old, take them to the nearest medical center to be vaccinated against measles.

The Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) reports that of the 770 thousand doses, only 45 thousand have been applied, which is equivalent to 5.8%.

The parents have taken the protection of the health of their children very seriously. The first vaccination day (December 12th) the medical staff vaccinated 30,164 children.

The extraordinary vaccination day is due to the increase in the number of cases in America. Venezuela is the country with the highest number of patients, and some of them have died.

Measles is one of the most serious diseases in the world and its consequences range from the reduction of defenses to death. In addition, the virus is highly contagious, for example, if in a room there are 100 people and only one of them has measles, it is estimated that 90% of people will get sick.

This public health intervention required an investment of $1.2 million, about 1,200 employees and the use of another series of supplies such as syringes and cotton.
