#Cementazo: Insurance company refuses to pay Bolaños’ credit to the BCR

January 23, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The company Oceánica de Seguros, issuer of the policies that supported the import of Chinese cement by Juan Carlos Bolaños, refuses to pay the Bank of Costa Rica (BCR) the compensation for the credit granted in favor of Sinocem.

On December 28th, Oceania rejected the claim and payment of the insurance policies CAUC-912, CAUC-1158, CAUC-968, CAUC-807, or CAUC-943.

In its reasoning to refuse disbursement, the insurance company alleged that

there are intentional or culpable acts committed by the representative of the policyholder, Sinocem of Costa Rica, and by Bank officials, which have been qualified by the authorities as crimes and are causes of exclusion, according to what is expressly stated in the signed contract,”

stated Oceánica.

Daniel Hernández, executive president of Oceánica, said that the insurance company will be respectful and abide by what the courts of justice ultimately resolve. In spite of this, he said that the company has not been notified of any legal action aimed at the collection of insurance policies for CAUC-912, CAUC-1158, CAUC-968, CAUC-807, or CAUC-943.
