National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) is calling on municipalities to not apply the prohibition, both for the runoff election on April 6th, and the Easter holiday.

The current law gives the power to be the municipalities to decide whether or not to adopt the restriction of the sale of alcoholic beverages during this time, so, we appeal to the wisdom of local authorities to be aware that the application of this prohibition has a substantial negative impact on tourism,

said Isabel Vargas, president of Canatur

Three weeks after Canatur make the call to the municipalities, only 6 percent of local governments have made known their position on the issue. Municipalities of Tibás and Mora in the province of San José, and El Guarco in Cartago and San Rafael de Heredia have indicated that the restriction shall not apply. However, the central canton of San José will apply the prohibition.
