Chancellor and First Lady will go to inauguration of new president of Mexico

November 29, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Vice President and chancellor, Epsy Campbell, and the First Lady of the Republic, Claudia Dobles, will be the representatives of the government at the inauguration ceremony of the new president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, on December 1st.

Since last week, the Minister of Communication, Juan Carlos Mendoza, had ruled out the presence of the president, Carlos Alvarado, who will remain on national territory in the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the Abolition of the Army.

At the moment it is unknown if there will be a bilateral meeting between Campbell and Dobles with the new leaders of the Mexican government or with other governments participating in the ceremony.

Different authorities of different countries have confirmed their attendance to the ceremony that will be carried out in the seat of the Legislative Palace of San Lazaro, in the city of Mexico.

The government of the United States confirmed on Wednesday that the administration of Donald Trump will be represented by Vice President Mike Pence and the daughter of the president, Ivanka Trump.

Andrés Manuel López Obrador, better known as AMLO, is 65 years old and will replace Enrique Peña Nieto. López is a political scientist and writer. During his political career, he has served as national president of the Party of the Democratic Revolution and was head of the government of the Federal District between 2000 and 2005.

He was elected with more than 50% of the votes on July 1st as a candidate of the coalition Juntos Haremos Historia.

The next president gave a speech in which he said he does not aspire to install an “open or covert” dictatorship and that his thought is summed up in one sentence:

For the good of all, first the poor.”
