Chinchilla: “No more half measures, governments must take sides”

March 20, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Former president Laura Chinchilla told the governments of America that they cannot take “half measures” regarding Venezuela’s situation.

According to the latest report by Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS) Luis Almagro, the South American country has a deep rupture of the constitutional state.

In an interview with NTN24 media, Chinchilla said that dialogue was an option that has already been used for more than a year.

The only thing that has happened is that Venezuelans are suffering more than a year ago. (…) No more half measures, governments must take sides,

the politician said.

She added that the member countries of the OAS, as well as the Venezuelan opposition must be more drastic.

The former president declared that it was the opposition’s mistake not to have intellectual clarity or political consistency to define its position before the dialogue.

With this erratic vision of not knowing what to do in front of a regime that increasingly aggravates Venezuelans’ situation, an international action, no matter how sensitive or convincing it may be, like Mr. Almagro’s, will never be able to prosper,

stated the official.
