Chinchilla: “we should be united to recover the peace that we are starting to lose”

December 21, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Laura Chinchilla, former President of the Republic (2010-2014) and former Minister of Public Security (1996-2008), expressed her concern about the rising violence in Costa Rica, which makes this year the most violent year in national history.

If the projections do not change dramatically, the number of crimes in the coming days will exceed the sum of 557, which was reached in 2015. According to the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ), 555 homicides were reported on December 19th.

During her presidential term, security was one of her strengths. From 2010 to 2013 there was a reduction in common crimes and homicides.

According to the former president, there are ways to deal with and reduce all types of violence.

If there is something that should unite us this Christmas is the collective desire to recover the peace that we are starting to lose,

concluded Chinchilla.
