CIDH will not visit Costa Rica to investigate “repression” against strikers

October 17, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The Ombudsman’s Office clarified that it did not request, nor is it coordinating a work visit of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) in attention to the strike held by the unions against the tax reform.

The clarification arises after fake information went viral on social media. It was said that the IACHR would arrive in the country to collect testimonies for alleged complaints against the government for the alleged excessive use of force to repress the demonstrators who have joined the indefinite strike.

It is very important to clarify that, after conversations with the Foreign Ministry, it was found that this information is FALSE,”

stated the authorities.

The institution also said that although it is true that the country has representatives of the IACHR, they are monitoring the situation of migrants.
