Clash between gold miners in Crucitas and the police

October 12, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Gold miners located in the mountains of Crucitas battled the Public Force to avoid being arrested and prevent gold confiscations.

At least 300 men stood in front of three patrols and prevented the officers from entering the area, according to one of the miners.

The video shows the block of contention to which the Public Force was subjected when it tried on October 11th to enter a sector of the farm taken by the miners since the beginning of this year.

According to an artisanal miner, they have already grown tired of being arrested by the authorities or having the gold they extracted from the earth seized, which he says it’s not reported in the confiscation proceedings.

According to the miner, in the area there are watchmen who are in charge of the surveillance and those who are located strategically in observation areas to detect the movement of the authorities.

The function of these lookouts is to alert immediately so that they all meet and confront the authorities.

At this moment, the number of miners is estimated at about two thousand. They are in the lands of industries Infinito.

Apparently, there are people who have teams of 100 or more workers and who are paid a basic salary of five thousand colones per hour of work.

That pay has generated a lack of pawns in the North Zone because Crucitas has attracted them like a huge magnet.

This continues to be a site generating millions of colones per week in gold thanks to the wealth that lies beneath the surface.
