The National Coastguard Service of Quepos prevented a tragedy by saving four girls, a woman, and a boy who were dragged by marine currents.
According to Commander Edson Rodríguez, director of the aforementioned station, the first rescue took place on Monday morning, when he received a 9-1-1 alert that four women had been dragged by a wave. The GC 38-16 boat from the Quepos Station traveled to the site together with Red Cross personnel.
They found four young girls aged 12, 13, 15 and 16 from the canton of Grecia in Alajuela, who immediately climbed aboard the boat and taken safely to the Coast Guard Station.
The Coast Guard’s rescue actions continued throughout the afternoon. The officers, when patrolling Manuel Antonio aboard two jet skis, spotted a mother and her minor child who asked for help. They were both surprised by a wave that took them out to sea, but the coastguards arrived and took them to shore safe and sound.
