Concession land for Panama Border?

May 30, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Legislators from the National Liberation Party (PLN) submitted a bill aiming to grant land concessions, along the border with Panama.

The initiative aims to create a special regime for municipalities to grant concession contracts for 25 years, renewable for the same period, to the current occupiers or tenants. But a regulatory plan is required first.

The State would not lose ownership of the land, and adjacent 200-meter area would be established along the border to create a wildlife sanctuary managed by the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE). This will serve as a border corridor and will ensure the national security and sovereignty.
