Congress will discuss “Smart Cities” and the Internet of Things

September 14, 2016 by Staff News Writer

On Wednesday, authorities will discuss how to leverage technology to walk towards the “Smart Cities” in the Association of Engineers and Architects (CFIA).

The conference will focus on Urban Planning based on the Internet of Things (a concept that refers to the digital interconnection of everyday objects with the Internet).

The activity is organized by the Council of Innovation and Talent, the Ministry of Foreign Trade (COMEX), the Ministry of Science and Technology (MICITT) and the CFIA.

The mayors of the municipalities La Unión, Moravia, Montes de Oca and Curridabat will be among the panelists.

We have a project in Curridabat called ‘real citizen atlas’, which is a set of many maps through which, by making correlations, we realize what happens, where it happens and how things happen in the territory,”

said Edgar Mora, mayor of Curridabat.

The topics to be discussed at the conference are architecture technology of smart cities, challenges to face the emergence of the digital economy, and smart lighting.

Municipal representatives will sign a Letter of Intent, to use technological tools in their respective municipalities. This will be the first step towards the goal of building smart cities to ensure quick and sensitive responses to the needs of the citizens.

The second vice president, Ana Helena Chacón; Deputy Minister of Telecommunications, Edwin Estrada, and President of the CFIA, Fernando Ortíz will also participate in the conference.
