Constitutional Court received a lawsuit against RECOPE’s workers contract

June 15, 2016 by Staff News Writer

The Constitutional Court received a constitutional claim against the workers’ contract of the Costa Rican Oil Refinery (RECOPE).

Congressman Otto Guevara, from the party Movimiento Libertario Nacional, presented the lawsuit on Monday.

The claim said the workers’ contract breaches the principles of legality and budget balance.

Some of the questioned benefits included several medical privileges, a 28.078 colones monthly contribution to workers per each child they have, a 6.2 million colones annual budget for social activities, among other perks.

This claim comes after the Constitutional Court decided by divided majority that the financial need to cover workers’ contract benefits can justify fuel prices increase.
