Construction and trade improve contracting

April 21, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Between April and June of this year, stability will prevail in the hiring of personnel and there will be a net improvement in the construction and trade sectors.

In turn, manufacturing, the agricultural sector and some services will deteriorate.

The Institute of Research in Economic Sciences of the University of Costa Rica presented its employment forecasts for the second quarter of the year, which are based on the XXVII Quarterly Survey on Business Opinion.

According to researcher Gabriela González, compared to the average of the second quarters of the last 7 years, the sectors studied -with the exception of agriculture- showed a lower level in employment expectations.

Other non-encouraging data are related to the operation: with regard to sales or production, expectations were less favorable than in the previous quarter in all sectors, with “other services” being the one with the largest drop.

Earnings expectations also worsened with regard to the previous quarter in all sectors except for construction where net balance increases.

The result of the overall index of business expectations in general terms shows that the optimism of the entrepreneurs weakened compared to the previous quarter.

The survey of business expectations was carried out to a sample of 431 companies. It was applied by telephone from February 23th to March 10th.
