Contaminated water and “arroz con pollo” caused diarrhea in Upala

November 29, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Health Minister Fernando Llorca reported that the authorities already controlled 2 outbreaks of diarrhea that occurred in shelters from Upala.

In the first outbreak, 13 cases of diarrhea were recorded, and authorities presumed  contaminated water was the cause of the situation.

On the other hand, in a Shelter in El Carmén there were 27 cases of diarrhea due to contaminated “arroz con pollo” and Cantonese rice.

Llorca explained that the Ministry of Health has 108 officials in the area, which was reinforced with 35 people from the University of Costa Rica.

The Health authorities are demanding to boil the drinking water and informed that they will analyze the water sources today.
