Controversial appointment in the Legislature goes to Court

May 1, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The recent appointment of a new chief in the Department of Health Services of the Legislative Assembly went to court.

Walter Rodríguez, congress doctor, asked the Administrative and Civil Litigation Court to issue an injunction to overturn an agreement of the outgoing Legislative Board, by which they appointed other officials who do not meet the requirements.

In the complaint, raised last Friday, Rodríguez asked to cancel the agreement made last Thursday to appoint Marisol Campos Arias as interim director and José Manuel Choto Monestel as deputy director, replacing Mario Martínez Bolívar’s pension.

According to Rodriguez, the two officials are not medical professionals and rather belong to the field of economic sciences.

Concomitantly, I request that an interim substitute of the current Director of the Department of Health be appointed and that they are a person who meets the requirements of the Class Descriptive Manual of this Legislature in effect for that position, and my formal intentions are known in this regard, given that I comply fully with the requirements established by the regulations,”

added Rodríguez.

According to the complaint, Rodríguez submitted his candidacy for the position, but it was irregularly ignored.
