Convicted child sexual abuser accsued of raping another minor

June 6, 2016 by Staff News Writer

A felon convicted for child sexual abuse, was arrested on Wednesday on charges of raping a 8-year old child in Guanacaste.

Witnesses reported that the man was seen with the naked child under a bridge in the Bebedero district of Cañas, and called the child’s mother.

Later, police found the mother and her child at the scene. Police arrested convict Ronald Martin Lopez, age 56 a few meters away from the bridge. He had been granted conditional release, which allowed him to stay out of prison for a few days of the week. Martin was finishing a 16 years prison term for abusing two children, and would have completed his sentence next year.

The Ministry of Justice said the probation benefit was decided as an ordinary procedure, not related with its controversial parole program to reduce overcrowding in prisons.
