February 22, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Corcovado National Park ranks third in a list of the ’25 most dazzling national parks in the world’. The classification was prepared by the El Viajero segment of the Spanish newspaper El País.

Corcovado, on the Osa Peninsula, was cataloged as an ‘exotic and exuberant’ place.

One of the largest and only tropical primary rainforests in the world, where various ecotourism agencies operate. It was created to protect the immense biological wealth from gold prospectors and forestry exploitations (…),”

wrote El País.

The list is completed by other impressive sites such as Vatnajökull in Iceland, Iguazú between Brazil and Argentina, the Glacier National Park in Argentina, the Komodo National Park in Indonesia, and the Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia.

Corcovado is a place characterized by the volume and variety of fauna, the species of monkeys, sloths, anteaters, poison dart frogs, alligators, crocodiles and dozens of bird species.

The national park is located 350 kilometers from San José. It has more than 42,000 terrestrial hectares and 5,000 marine hectares, including coral reefs, mangroves and freshwater marshes. It has six trails, where visitors can walk for more than 3 hours to observe the abundant biodiversity there.
