Costa Rica hasn’t recognized the interim president of Bolivia

November 15, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The government of Carlos Alvarado has not yet decided whether to recognize and support the interim president of Bolivia, Jeanine Áñez.

This Thursday, Deputy Foreign Policy Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Alejandra Solano Cabalceta told the press that the Chancellor of the Republic, Manuel Ventura, is carrying out this assessment.

The Chancellor is considering that, so far no decision has been made. It is being studied,”

said Solano.

After Solano’s statement, the press office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that his statements were not official and that it was better to consult Ventura. They added that the country closely follows the events in the South American nation before making a decision.

Áñez appointed her first 11 ministers on Wednesday, out of a total of 20, one day after taking office after the resignation of Evo Morales, who took refuge in Mexico.

This Tuesday, President Carlos Alvarado did not venture to say if Morales’s departure was due to a coup d’etat, but said he did not agree with the Bolivian armed forces’ involvement in Morale’s departure.
