Costa Rica pays extra to Paso Ancho viaduct’s contractor

June 13, 2016 by Staff News Writer

Delays on expropriations of properties and public services relocation, have cost Costa Rica 324 million of colones, which will be credited to the contractor of Paso Ancho viaduct.

The project’s original budget was $10 million (5.46 billion colones). The construction started in 2014 and the delivery date has been postponed for 9 months. The new inauguration date was set for next July.

The overpass will replace a roundabout at the San Sebastián district in San José. The infrastructure will be 1,312 feet long and will have six road channels (three in each direction). The project was funded by the Inter-American Development Bank.

The project completion was also delayed after the supervising agency found cracks on the anti-seismic devices used by the contractor, and demanded these to be replaced before accepting the infrastructure.
