Costa Rican Satellite will travel to space in Falcon 9 Rocket

March 6, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The first Costa Rican satellite will be launched in space on the powerful Falcon 9 rocket from SpaceX on April 2nd, along with other equipment from the Japanese Agency for Aerospace Exploration (Jaxa).

The Technological Institute of Costa Rica (TEC) reported that the so-called IrazĂș Project aims to measure the level of growth of the trees and thus be able to have an approximation of the rate of carbon fixation in national forests. The CubeSAT type satellite will be used in the communication between an experimental station in San Carlos and a monitoring station in the Central Campus of TEC.

The National Learning Institute (INA) built the housing and satellite systems were developed in SETEC-Lab facilities.

TEC commented that in November 2017 the final tests were made at the Kyushu Technological Institute (known as Kyutech) in Japan. The astronauts of the International Space Station will be responsible for releasing it and will have the same orbit as the station.

As the company SpaceX transmits all its launches, it is very possible that this can be seen both on the Facebook wall of the company and on YouTube.
