Country will put out forest fires with 15 vehicles worth ¢807 million

January 21, 2018 by Staff News Writer

The National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC) received 15 new vehicles that will be used for the special intervention to put out of forest fires.

The Toyota Land Cruiser vehicles have a value of ¢807 million and they were fitted with special equipment for the attention of forest fires.

For example, they have the 125-gallon forest extinguishing set (imported from Canada), a motor-driven pump, a chain saw, and a motor blower. They also made improvements to the suspension, special paint, signage, radio communication equipment, siren system, and emergency lights.

The purchase was made as part of the Investment Plan “Prevention and emergency attention for forest fires for the protection of biodiversity in lands of Natural Heritage of the State.”

The plan received the approval of the Board of Directors of the National Commission of Emergencies, after the affectations caused by the last drought of El Niño Phenomenon.

The Investment Plan also allowed SINAC to purchase 600 new personal protective equipment for officials and volunteers. The purchase of these special personal protective equipment for forest firefighters is ¢ 230 million.
