Criminals use social networks to target homes during this season

December 8, 2016 by Staff News Writer

During December most people go on vacation, and it is common that the recreational activities and trips get posted on social networks.

However, according to the national authorities, such publications can pose a risk to the safety of individuals, since criminals can easily monitor people who left homes alone.

The proper use of social networks is important. You should not publish where you are going to be on vacation, or any other information that could compromise the safety of your property or even your own,

stated Juan José Andrade, vice minister of security and director of the Public Force.

The authorities stated that houses should not be left alone, so the owners should leave a trusted person to watch over the security of the property.

Andrade added that in recent years criminal events have decreased during the holiday season. However, efforts should continue to be made and people must be alert.
