Crocodile was found roaming in Matina

January 11, 2018 by Staff News Writer

An unwanted visitor roamed the houses in Matina’s Cuatro Millas on Tuesday, for which representatives of the Public Force step in to capture it. The female crocodile measured more than three and a half meters long, becoming a threat to the neighbors of the community.

The capture of the animal was confirmed on Wednesday morning by the deputy head of the Public Force of Limón, Nelson Barquero, who said that they coordinated actions with a biologist from the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE). The specialist confirmed that it was indeed an adult female that, due to its size, should be removed for the peace of mind and safety of the locals.

Officials of the local public forces immobilized the crocodile and transferred it to a remote area. It was released in a sector on the banks of the Chirripó River.

Days ago, the Public Force had received reports of the animal but only yesterday they were able to located it and returned it to its habitat.
