The sighting of crocodiles in the waters of Lake Arenal, located between Tilarán and San Carlos should not alarm anyone.

Iván Sandoval, a biologist from the National University (UNA), explained that they’ve been receiving reports of this situation for years. He added that

the site was not part of their original distribution, since it is an artificial lake. But, obviously, it provides conditions for them to stay. They were probably released irresponsibly at some point, as it happened at La Paz Park’s lake (San José)”.

Another hypothesis suggests that crocodiles could have used the canals created by the irrigation project that connects the lake with Guanacaste’s plains.
