“Dale un regalo a la naturaleza” after Christmas

December 12, 2016 by Staff News Writer

“Dale un regalo a la naturaleza” is a campaign that aims to mitigate the impact of wastes after Christmas trees are removed.

This initiative covers nine municipalities: San José, Cartago, Desamparados, Moravia, Curridabat, La Unión, Goicoechea, Montes de Oca and Coronado.

Once the trees are discarded, instead of burning them or taking them to municipal landfills or vacant lots, they will be processed and transformed into organic fertilizer or decorative objects for gardens, trails and landscaping.

Cindy González, marketing head of FarmAgro (the processing company), said that not knowing what to do with cypress trees used at Christmas is very common after the holidays.

The participating municipalities are part of the institutions that promote a green culture in these sectors, as they are responsible for coordinating the logistics of harvesting trees for the different neighborhoods of each of these cantons.

You can see more details about collection dates in Farmagro Costa Rica’s Facebook page.
