Defaulters owe the CCSS more than 12 billion Colones

According to cut from October 31st, the biggest defaulters owe the Costa Rican Social Security Fund over 12 billion Colones.

Manufacturing, agriculture and livestock, real estate and commerce are the activities with the highest delinquency.

Luis Diego Calderón, director of Collections of the CCSS reported that for the second quarter of 2016, the accumulated arrears of the 50 largest defaulters nationwide totaled 18,993 million Colones, while at the end of the third quarter delinquencies fell by 2,797 million Colones.

What has the entity done to get the money back?
-659 claims for legal collection.
-434 criminal charges for the alleged crime of improper withholding in the payment of the workers dues
-There are 285 pending business closures for late payment of dues.

The CCSS called on those defaulting employers to pay their outstanding debts or formalize a payment arrangement.
