Dengue affects more than five thousand Ticos per year

May 2, 2018 by Staff News Writer

Dengue is one of the diseases with the biggest impacts on Costa Ricans’ health every year. According to data from the Ministry of Health between, 2012 and 2017, there were 106,992 dengue cases, the lowest reported figure was 5,000 cases in 2017.

According to Dr. Horacio Chamizo, director of the School of Health Technologies (TS) of the University of Costa Rica (UCR), there is a series of elements that prevent the population from adopting changed behaviors for the benefit of their own health, and despite the efforts made by the health authorities to eradicate dengue, prevention campaigns still fail to convey the right message to the population.

Similarly, Heberto Priego, president of the Ibero-American Network of Health Marketing (RIMS), said that it is necessary to make people understand that health is not only the absence of disease, but a complete physical, mental and social well-being.
