Dengue cases increased by 185%

October 3, 2019 by Staff News Writer

The good practice of eliminating Aedes aegypti mosquito breeding sites has been neglected and that gave dengue a huge advantage.

According to data from the Ministry of Health, to date 5,338 cases have been registred, which represents an increase of 185% compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the Central Region there are 2,238 (41.9%), this makes it the area of greatest incidence; followed by Huetar Caribe (1,222 cases), Central Pacific (573), Chorotega (337 cases), Huetar Norte (198), South Central (138 cases), Brunca (59 cases) and the West (44 cases).

The tires, pots, bottles, bags and pieces of household appliances are some of the mosquito breeding sites due to stagnant water.

Zika cases, on the other hand, were reduced by 57.5%.
