Did you work on October 17th? This information is for you!

During October 17th, Cultures Day celebrations took place. It was supposed to be celebrated on October 12th but it was a weekday. Thus, many employees took advantage of the long weekend and they came back to work on October 18th.

According to Article 148 of the Labor Code, such holiday does not require a mandatory payment, but employees who worked on October 17th must receive a double payment.

According to the Ministry of Labor, all workers, regardless of the type of work they do, are entitled to enjoy the holiday and even though they work for a national, transnational or international company, it must grant this holiday.

Regarding the payment, the Ministry of Labor explained that in the case of companies that have a weekly payment, they have to pay a regular working week, from October 9th to October 15, including October 12th.

Whereas this work week, which started with the enjoyment of the holiday, employers must pay the regular salary from October 18th until October 22th. If the employee didn’t work on October 17th, no payment is recognized, but if he or she worked that day, the person must receive a double payment.

In addition, work centers that have a monthly, biweekly or weekly payment and pay the salary of every day of the month, no matter if it is a rest day or a holiday, they have to pay the full salary of the week.
