Dogs are being abandoned during pilgrimage

July 31, 2017 by Staff News Writer

Several dogs have been reported in the vicinity of the Basilica of Los Angeles in Cartago, apparently abandoned during the pilgrimage that thousands of people have already done this weekend.

According to the Association Animal Aid of Cartago, the dogs had not been seen in the sector before, so it is presumed they were abandoned during the pilgrimage. This situation occurs each year.

The association says this is animal cruelty and claim to have reports that there are several dogs abandoned in sectors such as Taras, Tejar de El Guarco, Paraíso, Cipreses and surrounding areas.

This group calls on all people who plan to do the pilgrimage to leave pets at home.
