Duke, one of the icons against animal abuse, who lost part of his snout due to a machete attack, marched through the streets of San José on Sunday, during an event to support the animal abuse law.

We are the animals’ voice, the ones that cannot speak! Do not remain silent! Denounce animal abuse!

said the demonstrators.

With or without snout, with teeth or without them, Duke sees us with happy eyes because the machete cut his snout, but his soul is untouched. We are all Duke!”

declared María Jesús Mesalles, from Animal Life Organization.

Last week the Association for Welfare and Animal shelter (ABAA) announced that they already collected more than 160,276 signatures requested by law in order to call a referendum on the Animal Welfare Act.

Although the needed number has already been reached, the group will continue collecting signatures to have a backup.
